Statement of Faith.
TOGETHER WITH THE CHURCH IN ALL AGES, We believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who, for us humans and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried; and the third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and he shall come again, with glory, to judge the living and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end. And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets. And we believe in one Holy Universal and Apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
What We Teach
Affirmations & Denials
Our Affirmations and Denials serve as a teaching statement for our pastors/elders. The document is narrow enough to preclude some from leadership in the church but wide enough to allow those who disagree to happily participate in church life. FBC Waynesboro’s Affirmations and Denials declare our doctrinal convictions without declaring these convictions as an essential test for unity. To serve in positions of leadership one must subscribe to the Affirmations and Denials. Yet, one can still be united to FBC Waynesboro as a member in good standing without endorsing the document. We seek to embody the historic axiom, "In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity."
Read StatementThe Baptist Faith & Message
This is a broad document that outlines the most widely held beliefs among Southern Baptist Churches. It enumerates what beliefs are necessary for friendly cooperation in the Southern Baptist Convention. FBC is not bound by the BFM. Nevertheless, the BFM is a helpful guide to understanding our beliefs. The Statement of Faith which now follows registers our belief in historic Christianity, evangelical Christianity, believer’s baptism, and congregational polity. We expect our members to affirm our statement.
